September brings cooler weather, school starting again, and APPLES!!!! I LOVE a good apple and we are uniquely positioned in Ontario to enjoy FIFTEEN different types of locally grown apples.
While there are many ways to enjoy Ontario apples, applesauce is one of my favourites! There are many ways to make applesauce but the easiest in my opinion is in the slow cooker! Simply peel, core, and cut your apples, place in the slow cooker with a couple cinnamon sticks (to taste), and a little lemon juice. Put the lid on the slow cooker, set for 3-4 hours on medium to high and walk away!
Enjoy your homemade applesauce warm or let cool and store in the fridge for up to 3 days!
You can mix up the flavours of your applesauce too! Try adding other fruits such as peaches, pears, or strawberries!
By adding different flavours you'll keep your kids engaged, and add different nutrients to your kid's lunch!
Let me know what your favourite combination is!
